How do you love your business? (The question makes an assumption that we think of our business as separate from ourselves, which is generally recommended.)
Are you just dating, still seeing other businesses? Are you passionate about it, still dizzy from the fun and rewarding work that clients are paying you for? Maybe you’re committed to it, building something lasting and amazing! Some of us may be in a loveless marriage with our business, not sure what to do next.
We all love something about our business, and I’m sure there are parts of it that we would rather not do, but we do it because we are committed to the success of the business. Some days, we rush to the office, can’t wait to work on something wonderful, and others feel like we’re going through the motions.
As with relationships, business is a two-way street. We do the needful to keep it going, and we get to do what we love to do, in return. If all we did was focus on what we wanted, it wouldn’t be healthy, and probably wouldn’t last.
What if we can’t do it? What if we’re not good, not experienced, not interested? Well, that’s what friends are for. Ask for help. Talk to the ladies in your troikas. Come to a Business Angels event and see how it’s done. Find out how your sisters of industry face down the daily grind, and get the most from your labor of love.
